Crafting Tropical Elegance at Shannonvale

Step off the beaten path in Far North Queensland and you’ll find Shannonvale Winery — a family-owned tropical fruit winery nestled beneath the rainforest canopy near Port Douglas. But what you’ll discover here goes far beyond the postcard setting.

Shannonvale doesn’t make wine from grapes. Instead, we work with tropical fruits grown organically on our own land— passionfruit, black sapote, mango, jaboticaba, and more. And while fruit wines often get unfairly lumped in with sugary dessert styles, our wines speak a different language: dry, structured, and elegant.

This is tropical winemaking — done with intention.

Dry Wines, Real Craft

Creating dry wines from tropical fruit is no small feat. Each fruit ferments differently, bringing its own set of challenges and potential. At Shannonvale, we craft single-fruit wines, not blends — meaning each wine reflects the full character of its source fruit.

Our Passionfruit Dry is a great example. With a vivid golden colour and a nose of ripe passionfruit layered with subtle honey and apricot, it’s full-flavoured yet incredibly balanced. The sweetness you might expect is offset by bright acidity and a complex fruit structure, making it one of the most versatile wines in our collection. It pairs beautifully with seafood, strong cheeses, or even — surprisingly — sticky date pudding.

Then there’s the Mango Dry — delicate in colour and character. Aromas of melon and floral vanilla sit gently over clean, crisp fruit. It’s fermented in stainless steel, with no oak influence and no added yeast — letting the mango’s natural subtleties take centre stage. Paired with fresh-caught barramundi or grilled chicken, it’s a wine that surprises people again and again.

These aren’t novelty wines. They’re serious, dry table wines designed for the modern palate — clean, refreshing, and expressive.

Step Into the Story: Visit Our Cellar Door

Of course, the best way to understand Shannonvale’s wines is to taste them — and there’s no better place to do that than right here at the Cellar Door.

Set among tropical greenery, with mountain air and birdsong all around, our tasting room is more than just a stop — it’s an experience. When you visit, you’re invited to sample up to five wines, free of charge. Want to explore more? We simply ask for a minimum purchase of one bottle per couple.

Bookings are welcome, and encouraged if you’re planning ahead — especially during peak travel periods. Our team offers a relaxed but informative tasting experience, guiding you through the wines, the process, and the stories behind each fruit.

Whether you’re a seasoned wine lover or just curious about fruit-based winemaking, you’ll leave with a new appreciation for the tropics — and likely a bottle or two.

Tropical Fruit, Refined Wine

At Shannonvale, our goal isn’t to be different for the sake of it — it’s to show that tropical fruit can make wines of depth, elegance, and structure. Wines that pair at the table, that reward a second glass, and that truly reflect the land they come from.

No grapes. No gimmicks. Just thoughtfully crafted, organically grown, small-batch tropical wines — served in one of the most beautiful corners of the country.

Come visit. Taste the unexpected.
